Production Diary

This is our finished product:

19/10/2012-
Today we finished off editing and we also added a soundtrack with music from Garage Band. We also exported our finished product, and now it will be uploaded to YouTube.

18/10/2012-
Now we have begun editing and we have made good progress. So far we have edited all the clips together and a title at the beginning. We have experimented with a range of effects to make our film look more professional. We have also managed to stablize a couple of shots to make them look smoother, for example, the very first tracking in shot.

16/10/2012-
For the last couple of lessons we have been filming and producing our short film. So far, overall, our filming has been going well as we have managed to stick to our storyboard well, and we haven't had any problems. We have also been uploading our footage to the Macs, so later we can edit.

11/10/2012-

Today, we sent an email to the police notifying them about the filming we are planning to do. This was for health and safety preparations.

We also completed the Production Schedule and decided when, where and what props to use during each time we go out and film. This is so that we are organised and to make our film look more professional.

10/10/2012-

Today, we completed our location recce. We searched for the locations and took pictures, and we have decided on the best locations to use and whether or not they will be avaiable for when we plan to film.
Earlier today we also had our storyboards checked.
These are the locations:

We then also had to complete the location releases:

Today, we also finished the props list:
  • Tennis Ball
  • Phone with headphones
  • Wallet
  • Four leaf clover
  • 5 pound note
We have decided what costumes we are going to use:
  • Everyday/normal clothing
We have decided to use normal clothing as this fits the genre of our film and shows that the characters are just everyday people.

We also completed the risk assessment for Health and Safety reasons:

Since we also decided on the talent for the film, I had to sign a release form (making sure my parents had also signed it) so that there is permission for me to be in the film, since I am under 18.
(Some parts have needed to be blanked out.)

9/10/2012-

First of all today we finished off our storyboards:

We discussed the different shot types to use and what is going to happen in each shot, which includes the duration of each shot also. I thought that the shots we decided to use were interesting and overall we worked well together in the group to complete them.

Today we also finished off our synopsis:

Synopsis
The opening scene begins with both the actors sitting on a bench, the one on the left being unlucky and the one on the right lucky. Without any dialogue, they both then exit the shot by standing up and going opposite directions. In this first scene also, the unlucky person leaves his wallet on the bench. During this same shot also, the lucky person picks up the wallet and takes it with him.
After this, it turns into split screen with the unlucky person continuing to be on the left, going through many hurdles on the journey towards college. One of the many hurdles includes making decisions, such as deciding whether walking under a ladder or not. In this case during the second scene, the unlucky person does walk under a ladder and the lucky person doesn’t walk under the ladder.  One of the first unlucky events to happen to the unlucky person is that he walks into a lamppost. The shot after this is him lying on the floor. While he is getting up, the lucky person finds a 5 pound note which he picks up and puts into his pocket. While the lucky person is walking away, the unlucky person steps onto a crack in the road. The next shot shows him looking down at his shoes, and when he looks up, he gets hit in the face with a ball. Because of this, he begins to get dizzy and stumbles down the street. While this is happening, the lucky person finds a four leaf clover. The next shot is them both walking down the street and ending up back on the same bench. The lucky person gives back the wallet, and then leaves the shot. The unlucky person then opens the wallet to find the four leaf clover inside, and because of this, he then finds a 5 pound note. The last shot shows him happy as it then fades out to the credits.

4/10/2012-

Today we finalised our ideas and started to produce a synopsis. We also began to think about different shots, which we will finally put into a storyboard and what music to use.
