The genre for the film ‘9’ is mainly an animated
action-adventure, with elements of science-fiction, slight horror and drama
included. I think that the horror elements should have been shown more on the
poster as this would have attracted a wider audience. From my questionnaires, I can see that the
animation appealed to most people, so this is what the poster done well and is
what I should keep.
The main characters in the film are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
and 9. However, 9 is the character most focused on, and I think that the poster
shows that well. But, I also think that the ‘monsters’ in the film should have
been shown more on the poster, as it is far in the background and harder to
see. I therefore intend to make the ‘monsters’ stand out more so that the
horror/action elements are seen more easily, and also makes the film look more
interesting.
The tagline for the film is ‘when our world ended, their
mission began.’ I think this is a good tagline as it is relevant to the film
and quite easy to remember, therefore I will be using this.
A basic summary of a film is that the world has been
destroyed by these machines, and that all humanity has ended creating a
post-apocalyptic world. A scientist, who can appear to be the only one left,
has created these 9 hand-stitched dolls that, after, come to life. The film
begins on number ‘9’ awakening, and he awakes in a frightening world where all
humans are gone.
By chance, he discovers others like him taking refuge from
these fearsome machines which are the cause of human extinction. 9 sees this,
and then convinces the others that hiding will do them no good, and they go out
to fight and try to survive against the machines. I think that the poster shows
the setting well, but I would like to show more of the environment to make the
film look more interesting and add to the horror to appeal more to the
audience.
On the poster, none of the actors where shown and I think
this should have been very important. Some of the actors are very popular such as
Elijah Wood, Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly and Jennifer Connelly, and
including these big names on the poster possibly would have attracted more
people, and also different ages. Tim Burton was one of the producers of the
film, and even though his name was included on the poster, I think it should’ve
been made bigger to stand out more and attract his fans. Shane Acker is also a
very popular director, and I think his name should’ve been made clearer to see
too. Therefore, this is what I’m going to be changing.
